What About Your Friends?

Friendship - a state of mutual trust and support between allied nations. In our society today, friendships mean everything. In most cases, friends have literally become family. The saying goes you Can’t choose your family but you Can choose your friends. What happens when the individual(s) you chose begin to change? How do you adjust when the dynamics of the friendship(s) shift?

From my personal experience it was a situation that I first, had to come to realization about. Then, secondly, change my mindset in how I perceived things. Initially, I would get in my feelings about not getting an invite. But after thinking about it there was a possibility that I wouldn’t have attended the soirĂ©e anyway for whatever reasons. Ultimately, I became aware that my life and my friend(s) were No Longer In Sync. I remember telling one my close friends that I could possibly not make it out the ninety-nine times she asked but that one hundredth time she ask, I possibly could. Air is free and it only takes a minute to pose a question/invite. Sometimes when we’re in different places in life it takes a minute to find balance.

It doesn’t negate the memories you have nor does it mean that your friendship(s) has “run its course.” Instead, it’s a tell sign of Growth, Change, Life, and this ghetto thing called adulting. Send a text, make a call, plan a date and catch up. It’s worth it and needed it. Be patient and try not to take it personal.

Be the greatest you,
J. Renee
